Putting has often been a struggle for Sergio García but that didn’t stop him nailing a putt to win the Masters on Sunday.
Sergio García is the Masters champion for 2017 following a dramatic play off victory.
There is never a shortage of drama on the final day of the Masters and this year was no different. Justin Rose was the only other real contender for the green jacket and a loose drive on the first play off hole is what eventually cost him a second Major victory.
García managed to hold his nerve on the final hole as he won the Masters with a shot to spare after Rose got a bogey on what was the final hole.
The sheer elation in the Spaniard was clear for all to see, he was brought to his knees when that winning putt found the bottom of the cup. All of the frustration built up inside from previous failures at major championships, came out as unadulterated happiness when García realised he was finally a major winner. He was now in the same bracket as his idols, Seve Ballesteros and José María Olazábal.
The putt that won him the Masters will surely be forever in his memory and the significance of it is absolutely priceless.
Sergio García has finally conquered Augusta.
