Tottenham Still Looking For New Signings

Tottenham Hotspur have been relatively quiet in the transfer window thus far with the club seemingly more  interested in slashing squad numbers than bringing in fresh talent. However there are one or two interesting names circulating as possible targets, and Spurs fans will be keen to see new boss Mauricio Pochettino make a move before the window closes.

Roma are looking to offload Mattia Destro and have placed a £20 million valuation on the Italian international. Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur have been alerted by the Serie A club as to his availability, according to The London Evening Standard. Italian sources claim Spurs technical director Franco Baldini met his Italian counterpart Walter Sabatini, fueling speculation that a move to White Hart Lane is on the cards.

Spurs would possibly prefer an option that includes misfiring striker Roberto Soldado moving in the opposite direction rather than paying the £20 million transfer fee but Roma are not believed to be keen on this.

In a similar scheme Jose Mourinho would be prepared to use Fernando Torres as a pawn in the move to land Destro, but the Serie A club would be unwilling to pick up the tab for  Spaniard’s astronomical £180,000 a week paycheck, expecting the Londoners to continue to pay a sizable portion of it.

It  is clear there is little sign of a resolution on this one yet but, with only days left in the transfer window, all parties need to refocus their efforts to get a deal done.

PSV Eindhoven’s Memphis Depay is another player that Pochettino would love to bring to White Hart Lane, the Argentine  has already seen a £15 million bid rejected by the Dutch club. But the player’s refusal to agree a new contract has given Spurs given fresh hope in their pursuit of the World Cup star, according to The Express.

The Dutch club are keen to hold onto the winger and boss Philip Cocu will hope to persuade him that his interests are best served by remaining in the  Eredivisie.  Depay’s current deal not set to expire  until 2017, so if he really insists on a move, PSV will hold the upper hand in any talks.
