Tottenham are closing on the signature of Sevilla defender Federico Fazio. The North London club are said to be willing to pay £8 million for the 27-year-old’s services, according to the Mirror.
Considering Tottenham’s 100% record so far this season and with two clean sheets, one would be forgiven for thinking that defensively Mauricio Pochettino would be happy with his side but he doesn’t want to rest on any laurels after just two games.
A deal now looks close to completion for Fazio in what would be a quality signing, and one which would certainly improve Tottenham’s defence, particularly when it comes to experience.
Pochettino’s preferred pairing so far this year of Younes Kaboul, who has plenty of Premier League experience, and Eric Dier, who at the age of 20 still has a lot to learn about the leagu,e may be changed around if Fazio is to come to North London.
Dier has done very well since he has come in but Pochettino likely wants a proven La Liga defender to add even more stability to their defence for games against the bigger teams. Fazio started 27 of Sevilla’s La Liga games last term.
With European football another distraction for this Tottenham side next season a healthy number of players available at each position will be crucial to this team’s success.
If they have a stronger defence and can improve on the 51 goals that they conceded last term then the White Hart Lane club are definitely contenders for a top four finish.
