Deal struck between BBC and ITV to show Six Nations Fixtures from 2018.
The BBC and ITV have struck a deal that allows for the Six Nations to continue being broadcast on terrestrial TV from 2018. Sky had been favourites to land the rights, after tournament chiefs let it be known that they would consider bids from subscription TV companies.
Sky’s offer was thought to have been greater than that of the BBC, but are set to be beaten to the rights after the latter enlisted the aid of ITV. Such an announcement is expected as early as this weekend.
Winning the rights is an important victory for the BBC and ITV, who between them have lost the the broadcasting rights to many sporting events, including the Open Championship from 2017.
