According to the Irish Golf Desk, Shane Lowry will receive a ban of around $5,000 (€4,600) for cursing during the final round in The Honda Classic on Sunday.
Lowry was co-leading the event when he finished his final round on Thursday, but he struggled on Friday and Sunday with rounds of 75, eventually finishing up T53rd.
The explicit moment happened at the notorious 15th hole, which is a par 3 over the water, and the beginning of the difficult stretch of holes affectionately known as ‘The Bear Trap’. Lowry found the water and he simply let all his frustration out, something we’ve all felt and thought during a round of golf.
The Offaly man took to Twitter to respond to the wealth of comments he was receiving and he wasn’t overly apologetic for the slip of the tongue.
However, this is exactly why Shane Lowry remains one of Ireland’s most popular sportsmen, he truly is a man of the people and just himself. Last year the Offaly man even topped a poll on Balls.ie where their readers were asked to name what Irish sports star they would like to share a pint with, coming ahead of the likes of Paul O’ Connell and Robbie Keane.
Golf is often considered a backwards sport and there’s far too much snobbery in it, but it is refreshing to see someone react like 99% of the golfers who will hit the fairways this weekend.
Here’s the video in all its glory. *warning contains strong language…obviously.
