Tottenham Hotspur fans won’t have much to get excited about in the next few weeks with a whole host of players facing the axe and Daniel Agger looking like the only probable new signing.
Spurs are vying with rivals Arsenal for the signature of Liverpool centre back Daniel Agger aaccording to The Express. The Dane who is a long time Liverpool servant is looking to move away from Anfield having been edged out of the first team last term and things are unlikely to improve for the 29-year-old with the arrival of Dejan Lovren.
West Ham are also in the race to land Agger but the two North London clubs are clearly the frontrunners. Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers for his part has denied there are any offers on the table.
“I’ve seen some stories on that but, no, we haven’t had any enquiries. Dan’s still getting some work done on his knee, he’s been a bit unfortunate since America. He’s still getting treatment but we haven’t had anything, no offers.”
Liverpool have placed a valuation of £12 million on the Dane, a hefty price tag for a 29-year-old defender.
Roberto Soldado could be on the way out the door with Atletico Madrid looking to bring the striker in on a loan deal according to The Mail. Spurs must be suffering a severe case of buyer’s remorse having splashed out £26 million on the 29-year-old last summer, who had a disastrous season at White Hart Lane only managing one goal from play. However boss Mauricio Pochettino will not want to lose the Spaniard on the cheap with the club having paid £26 million last year for the player.
In further news of possible departures the Irish Independent reports that Pochettino is looking to slash the squad down to 25 players, he was quoted as saying.
“We have a long, long squad, I think we need to take a decision now to decide how many players to keep, because we have more than 25 – for me, too many players. My ideal is 25. “
This could leave a number of players getting a P45 with Younes Kaboul, Kyle Naughton, Benoit Assou-Ekotto, Paulinho, Sandro, Etienne Capoue and Mousa Dembele considered the most likely to be offloaded. The Argentine has already tried to sell captain and long term servant Michael Dawson to Hull and midfielder Nacer Chadli is also for sale.
