Manchester United have already signed Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw this summer and will be looking to add more talent to their squad for the upcoming season. Recent reports have linked the Red Devils with Fiorentina winger Juan Cuadrado, but would the Colombian winger be a good fit for Manchester United?
Recent reports in Spanish newspaper Sport have talked of Fiorentina winger Juan Cuadrado’s possible move to Old Trafford. It appears that the winger is likely to leave the Serie A side with manager Vincenzo Montella admitting that if the right offer came in he would sell.
“If Cuadrado were to be sold it would only be for a satisfactory offer.
“The fans remain confident, however. With the money we received from the transfer of Cuadrado we would immediately recruit other players to strengthen the squad.
“But if the offer that we are expecting does not arrive, we would be more than happy to keep him.”
There is obviously substance in the speculation, but what would Cuadrado bring to Old Trafford?
The 26-year-old winger also enjoyed a stellar season at Fiorentina and, while he had been highly regarded around Europe, he is only now getting the recognition his talent deserves.
Cuadrado provided four assists and scored one goal at the World Cup with two assists coming in the opening game against Greece. While his performances were somewhat overshadowed by the brilliance of teammate James Rodriguez, the Colombian winger was a joy to watch with his pace, trickery and relentless running catching the eye.
With Antonio Valencia, Nani and Ashley Young underperforming, Cuadrado could be the answer to add pace and creativity to the right flank where United looked bereft of ideas and lacked penetration in last year’s disastrous season.
It was last season in Serie A that the pacey winger really came to the fore scoring eleven goals and providing five assists. However, it was also his tactical awareness that was impressive appearing in a number of different positions for Fiorentina and this added versatility could catch the eye of Louis Van Gaal who likes to utilize his players in different positions and roles.
Louis Van Gaal may utilize a 3-5-2 or 4-3-3 at Old Trafford in the coming season and Cuadrado would be perfect for both systems as he is renowned for his athletic ability and can also contribute defensively in a wing back role. However, it is his attacking prowess that could really offer Manchester United some of the flair and pace that they were lacking last year.
