The DailyMail have reported that Manchester United are poised to make bids for Angel Di Maria, Daley Blind and have turned their attentions to Marcos Rojo after missing out on Thomas Vermaelen.
According to the Telegraph United have made a £16m bid for Sporting Lisbon’s Marcos Rojo. The Argentine Cup defender who operated at left back for World Cup runners-up is believed to be keen on a move to Manchester and a deal is now expected to go through as the player is trying to force a move by refusing to train for the Portuguese outfit.
A potential Rojo deal may contain third party ownership, which is common with players in Portugal however United are confident that there will be no complications to get a deal finalized.
Angel Di Maria remains a target as Van Gaal looks to add pace to the Manchester United. The Telegraph have reported that Manchester United chief executive Ed Woodward was in Cardiff ahead of Real Madrid’s UEFA Super Cup final to begin negotiations.
Van Gaal was speaking to the Mail on Sunday and indicated that the possible signing of Di Maria would give his side another dimension.
“You cannot compare how the players will do under the guidance of Moyes with those same players under the guidance of Louis van Gaal.Every trainer and coach and manager wants a different style of play and different tactics. Now we have five No 9s and four No 10s and we don’t have wingers to play attacking width, not at the highest level, of Ronaldo or Di Maria or something like that.
So I have to play also in another way and you have seen that. It’s a strategy of Manchester United to buy players who are on the way up and getting better, but I only buy when I think we need to.”
As James Rodriguez has signed as the new “Galactico” by Real Madrid President Florentino Perez, it seems that Di Maria is surplus to requirements at the Spanish giants and with PSG out of the running, United are now front runners for the Argentine midfielders signature.
Van Gaal also hinted at a move for Daley Blind when speaking to the Mail on Sunday.
“If they are at the level I want them to be, then I will sign Dutch players. Dutch players are usually cheaper than players of other nationalities and they have usually been very well educated in the Netherlands, I believe.”
Blind is capable of playing in a left wing back role as seen at this years World Cup and he has even featured as a left sided centre half, but most of his appearances for Ajax last year were in the centre of midfield. Such versatility could make the the Dutch international a very valuable addition.
Blind is under contract until 2016 and it is believed that he could be purchased for about £15-£17 million and with Louis Van Gaal admitting that he could target Dutch talent.
Manchester United would have to pay in the region of at least £80m to acquire all three as Louis Van Gaal looks to build a squad that can compete with the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool who have all strengthened this summer.
