With precious little time left in the transfer window Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal really needs to get his signings over the line. The Arturo Vidal deal looks to be nearly there, Angel di Maria may be going to Paris instead of Manchester while new recruits at the back are proving elusive.
Arturo Vidal could finally be on the way to Old Trafford, with the Premier League club paying the bill in cash and players, according to The Daily Star. Reports indicate that the deal will involve a£36 million fee along with the unwanted Javier Hernandez and Nani. The latest flurry of rumour stems for the Mexican striker’s agent Eduardo Hernandez comments regarding his clients future.
“For now I cannot comment on the situation, have no news at the moment on an exchange, I haven’t spoken to anyone in England, but there will be news soon.”
Commentators have taken the words “eschange2 and “there will be news soon” as an indication that the move involving Vidal is imminent. In a very clear sign that something is actually happening this time bookmakers have stopped taking bets on Vidal ending up in Old Trafford,
There is bad news for the United faithful in relation to the Angel di Maria pursuit with Paris Saint Germain back in the race to land the Argentine star, according to a report in The Express. It was previously believed that the Ligue 1 club had dropped out of the race due the costs involved, these concerns centred on the UEFA fair play restrictions imposed rather than cash which is in plentiful supply at the club bankrolled by middle eastern oil. The way seemed to be clear for a £50 million deal to bring di Maria to Old Trafford but now reports suggest that Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is in talks with the Parisien club who have as emerged as favourites to close the deal.
The other area of concern for van Gaal is a defence weakened by the departures of stalwarts Patrice Evra, Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidić, and ESPN reports that he is considering a bid for Roma’s Mehdi Benatia to address this problem . The Moroccon international would be an expensive signing however, with a fee of £30 million needed to prise him away from the Serie A club. Chelsea are also interested in the centre back, but United’s need is greater after having already missed out on Arsenal’s Thomas Vermealen. The Red Devils boss other targets for central defence are Ajax’s Daley Blind and Sporting Lisbon’s Marcos Rojo, but whichever decision is made time is of the essence with the start of the new season only days away.
