Luiz Suarez looks set to join Barcelona, so Dan Dalton looks at four potential replacements that Liverpool could bring in for the Uruguayan.
Liverpool have tried to convince Alexis Sanchez to join but it seems that the Chilean winger is on his way to The Emirates. Divock Origi could be set to join but he is only 19 years old and will be seen as one for the future, while Liverpool have also been linked with Lazar Markovic, a 20-year-old pacey winger not in the same mould as the Uruguayan attacker. This article looks at possible candidates to replace or fill the void of the likely departure of Suarez.
1. Mario Balotelli
Balotelli had been linked with a move to Arsenal but speculation of a move to the Gunners has lessened in the last number of weeks. While the AC Milan striker is a controversial figure, on his day he is a world class striker. With Brendan Rodger’s managerial skills and the influence of Dr. Steve Peters, “Super Mario “could thrive at Anfield.
The former Manchester City striker endured a difficult 2nd season at the Italian giants. Milan struggled in Serie A and Balotelli was criticized for his performances for the Rossoneri. If Liverpool managed to get the best form out of the 23-year-old he could be a spectacular striker. He scored 12 goals in his first 13 appearances for Milan, showing his scoring prowess, and will only have just turned 24 at the start of the season.
2. Antoine Griezmann
The 23-year-old French international is mainly a left winger but can also play in a front two and this may suit Liverpool’s 4-4-2 diamond that they liked to use last year. Griezmann is quick and a good technical player similar to the type of player that Brendan Rodgers like’s to acquire, but the Frenchman has more experience than many of Liverpool’s players despite only being 23-years-old.
The Real Sociedad man has experience of Champions League football and has played over 30 games in the Spanish top flight for the last five seasons. He would also bring goals to this Liverpool team having scored 20 in 49 appearances for the Basque club.
3. Wilfried Bony
Bony is a much different striker to Suarez, and while he would not contribute anywhere near the influence the Uruguayan does all around the pitch, the Ivorian comes alive in the box and possesses a fearsome right foot. He also scored two goals in three games in this year’s World Cup and was favoured in attack to Didier Drogba.
The 26-year-old is a target for Tottenham. There are a lack of proven strikers proven in the Premier League and Bony may be a good option for Brendan Rodger’s side. He scored 16 goals for Swansea in last year’s Premier League showing that he has the potential to score regularly in England’s top flight.
4. Loic Remy
Remy is expected to leave Queens Park Rangers and Arsenal have been linked with the pacey attacker for quite some time but the Gunners now appear to have turned their attentions to Alexis Sanchez. Remy could be seen a potential striking option for Liverpool. The QPR striker would add even more pace to a Liverpool attack that already features the likes of Raheem Sterling and Daniel Sturridge.
The 27-year-old scored 14 goals in 26 appearances in the Premier League last year for Newcastle United. A player of Remy’s talent is not expected to stay at QPR and Brendan Rodgers could benefit from the Frenchman’s talents, which include the ability to run in behind defences and clinical finishing. The former Marseille man could thrive on the service provided by the creative talents of Philippe Coutinho, Raheem Sterling and new signing Adam Lallana.
