Mario Balotelli could be on his way back to the Premier League after Liverpool have reportedly tabled a €22m offer for the AC Milan striker, according to Sport Mediaset reports in Italy.
Pippo Inzaghi’s AC Milan are said to be open to bids over €25m and Liverpool could be prepared to pay that amount after recently being linked with a £20m loan fee for Radamal Falcao. However there are doubts about the Colombians fitness following a serious knee injury and have now looked to “Super Mario” as an option.
At the age of 23 and with Premier League experience, the former Manchester City striker could be a good fit for Brendan Rodgers side. Liverpool are a squad lacking in Champions League experience and the Italian striker has previous experience at that level with both Inter Milan and Manchester City.
Brendan Rodgers has spoken highly of the the controversial striker ahead of their friendly encounter with AC Milan earlier in the month.
“Balotelli is a big talent. I saw that in this time at Inter Milan as a young player and obviously going to Manchester City when we had a real close eye on him there. He’s got all the qualities. He’s 6ft 3ins, he’s quick, his touch is terrific and he can score goals. He went back to Italy to play and he’s still so young. If his focus is right, his concentration is right and he leads the lifestyle of a top player then he can play for any team in the world.”
Rodgers clearly is an admirer of the striker and he did manage to get the best out of fellow former Inter Milan player Phillipe Coutinho who had struggled somewhat in Serie A.
Balotelli had been linked with a move to Arsenal in the past, but speculation of a move to the Gunners has cooled since the arrival of Alexis Sanchez.
While the AC Milan striker is a controversial figure, on his day he is a world class striker. With Brendan Rodgers’ managerial skills and the influence of Dr. Steve Peters, ‘Super Mario’ could thrive at Anfield.
The former Manchester City striker endured a difficult second season at the Italian giants. Milan struggled in Serie A and Balotelli was criticized for his performances for the Rossoneri.
If Liverpool managed to get the best form out of the 23-year-old he could be a spectacular striker. He scored 12 goals in his first 13 appearances for Milan, showing his scoring prowess, and will only have just turned 24 at the start of the season.
There is no denying that Balotelli has the talent to be a striker to be feared all around Europe. He has shown flashes of brilliance throughout his career, the Euro 2012 campaign and his first six months at Milan being the best examples of this.
There is however question marks over his temperament and application, however Brendan Rodger’s has managed to get the best out of Daniel Sturridge, showing that maybe he could get the best out of ‘Super Mario’. If Liverpool are to purchase a high profile striker this transfer window, Mario Balotelli could be a risk worth taking.
