With the recent departure of Shane Long to Southampton it now looks as though Steve Bruce will be looking to Blackburn for a replacement up front. Jordan Rhodes may be tempted away from Ewood Park with Hull offering £8 million plus add-ons, according to the Mirror.
After a relatively successful season last year playing in 15 games and scoring four goals since joining the club midway through the season, Long helped Hull finish in 16th place last season.
However, Hull must now replace Long’s attacking threat and one of the Championship’s best strikers could be a good choice by Steve Bruce. With 25 goals in 46 league games he has proved his worth at second tier football and the move to the Premier League could be a massive inspiration for player to play at his very best and learn from better players around him.
It will be interesting to see if Hull can emulate what they managed to do last term especially with the added pressure of European football. With Nikica Jelavic, George Boyd, Yannick Sagbo and Robbie Brady also capable of playing in a forward role there would be no lack of competition for Rhodes if he is to sign for the Tigers.
Add to this that squad rotation will be essential for Hull to play well on every front next season and Rhodes would have a very good chance of getting game time.
There may yet be a silver lining to the loss of Shane Long, if Bruce can sign the highly rated 24-year-old from Blackburn.
