Lewis Holtby could be heading back to the Bundesliga from Tottenham once again following his arrival from Schalke.
Hamburg are reportedly interested in the out of favour Tottenham midfielder with a Hamburg director confirming the club’s interest, according to Sky Sports.
Tottenham’s midfield is currently swamped with midfield talent and it looks as though the time has come for Holtby to face the fact that he is just off the pace in comparison to his midfield teammates this season. Players like Christian Eriksen and Erik Lamela have performed better this term so far and by the looks of it Holtby will struggle to surpass them anytime soon.
The German hasn’t started this season much different to last even under a new manager in Mauricio Pochettino. He only started six Premier League games for the White Hart Lane side last season before being loaned to Fulham.
Much promise surrounded Holtby when he arrived at Tottenham but with expectations being higher than the reality we have witnessed, a move to a smaller club for the time being could be an intelligent one for Holtby’s career.
