Former Irish Sports Journalist of the Year, Ewan MacKenna, has been named as the man tasked with going head-to-head with Lance Armstrong at the impressive One Zero Conference.
MacKenna has resided in Brazil for the past few years, making headlines recently for his persistent questioning of Mo Farah’s connections with Jama Aden and Alberto Salazar. Aden was arrested on doping charges in June.
MacKenna is a contributor to the New York Times, ESPN, and the Sunday Business Post among others. A particular interest in his work and life has been the scientific, moral, psychological and hidden aspects surrounding doping in sport and the idea of cheating as part of basic human nature.

Speaking about the appointment, One Zero’s Richard Barrett promised, “Lance will be given one of the toughest interviews of his career, by a journalist capable of probing and prodding the psyche of Armstrong, and providing an unforgettable experience for all at One Zero on October 21st.
“We don’t want emotions, we want answers. Ewan (MacKenna) was an easy choice. ” – Richard Barrett
One Zero’s Rob Hartnett spoke to Today FM on Monday about the appointment, where he was joined by long-time Lance Armstrong foe, Paul Kimmage. Kimmage’s reaction was straightforward, why didn’t One Zero select him as the interviewer?
“You mention Ewan, a fantastic journalist, but I did not receive a call,” stressed Kimmage. “Am I not worth, to use (Armstrong’s) words, the chair he was sitting on? Was that not worthy of your consideration?”
“It was, but we took you on your word, Paul.” said One Zero co-founder, Rob Hartnett. “You said in 2014 that you no longer wanted to talk about Lance Armstrong.”
” I would have paid you to have a chance to sit in that chair and ask him the questions I’ve never asked before.” – Paul Kimmage.
With just over three weeks to go One Zero, the atmosphere is reaching boiling point.
