Strikers look to be what Roberto Martinez needs as the final week of the transfer window begins, with rumours of a move for not just Samuel Eto’o, but now also Danny Welbeck, according to The Telegraph.
A move for Samuel Eto’o has been touted for a while now but signing Danny Welbeck could be another surprise buy should the Toffees pull it off.
Romelu Lukaku has already signed permanently with Everton this year to give them a huge advantage up front, but with another player of the quality of Eto’o or Welbeck beside him Everton could be a real force this season. Although Welbeck wasn’t a consistent part of United’s team last season he is still a player that possesses a lot of talent when called upon.
When one looks at the United squad it is understandable that he hasn’t had as much game time as Wayne Rooney or Robin Van Persie, with both players being a step above the 23-year-old in talent at the moment.
However, this does not mean it would be the case with Everton who could be a perfect fit should Welbeck join the Toffees. They themselves have competition with Steven Naismith and the aforementioned Lukaku, but Welbeck would be a very good option for Martinez and would likely cause a selection headache that would be the envy of teams chasing the Toffees this season.
There is only a week to go in the window but one would hope that Welbeck can get a move to the Liverpool club as it would give Everton some more firepower, making for a more entertaining battle for fourth place as well as giving Welbeck more starts than he is currently enjoying at Manchester United.
