You would think having been beaten by Jon Jones twice already in his career that Daniel Cormier would wish to steer clear of clashing with his arch nemesis for a third time.
Well, being the warrior that he is, DC is keen to share the octagon with Jones again to right the wrongs of the past.
Jones flagged positive for a banned substance in a USADA test prior to the pair’s UFC 214 main event, which ‘Bones’ won via a vicious second-round KO. It was the latest in a long line of controversies and mess-ups by the former light heavyweight champion.
Cormier, forever the consummate professional, though that persona was tried and tested throughout his bitter rivalry with Jones, was initially heartbroken after his second defeat to his foe. Upon learning that his opponent had been caught out on steroids, the current 205 lbs champ admitted he felt more of a sense of “again?” rather than shock.
Since the fight Jones has been stripped of his title and Cormier has been recrowned the champion of the division he was never fairly beaten in.
Will we see a trilogy bout down the line, once we learn the extent of Jones’ punishment? It is believed that he could face a ban of up to four years, having just last year served a one-year suspension for a USADA violation.
Cormier is all for another throw down with Jones. He has even stated his wish that his enemy receives a less severe punishment in order for the third instalment of the famed rivalry to happen sooner rather than later. One thing is for sure, no matter when or where, if DC-Jones 3 is to go down, the eyes of every MMA fan across the globe will be watching.
