Things are quiet at the Bridge at the moment with Jose Mourinho claiming all the pieces are in place for the upcoming season, however there are a few issues yet to be resolved; cover at midfield, fighting off Atletico Madrid’s approach for Andre Schürrle and sorting out the goalkeeping berth.
Jose Mourniho is interested signing French youngster Adrien Rabiot, according to The Express. The 19-year-old player would who will struggle to get game time for his current club Paris Saint Germain, would provide an extra option for Chelsea at midfield.
The Blues boss has had a £7 million bid already turned down, but an improved offer of £10 million should be enough to bring the Frenchman to Stamford Bridge.
The Special One may have a battle on his hands to hang on to German World Cup winner Andre Schürrle with Atletico Madrid interested in taking him away from Stamford Bridge reports The Mirror. The Spanish side have hemorrhaged players during the transfer window, with Chelsea among others raiding their La Liga-winning squad. However, Atletico boss Diego Simeone may strike back.
Earlier reports had suggested the German star could move to Madrid as part of a deal involving centre back Miranda going in the opposite direction but Simeone was determined to keep the Brazilian defender. The possibility of a straightforward deal remains and Chelsea’s need to increase the quota of homegrown players in their squad may facilitate it.
With the Chelsea squad seemingly settled for the coming season the goalkeeping slot is still very much up for grabs with Thibaut Courtois arriving back from loan Atletico Madrid to challenge long time incumbent Peter Cech.
If, as expected, the Belgian gets the jersey the Czech keeper has indicated he will not stay to sit on the bench and Paris Saint Germain would be the most likely destination, with the Ligue 1 club believed to be prepared to pay £10 million for the 32-year-old, according to The Irish Independent.
