As the Brendan Rodgers era gets underway at Celtic, the former Liverpool manager is expected to be highly active in the transfer window this summer.
Rodgers made his first foray into the transfer market yesterday, and completed the signing of highly talented youngster Moussa Dembele.
According to the Daily Mail Blackburn Rovers 24-year-old defender Shane Duffy, who has just returned from Euro 2016 with Republic of Ireland, could be Rodgers’ next signing.
Celtic have made an enquiry about the Irish defender’s availability and claims suggesting, with Duffy having just one year left on his contract at Ewood Park, that Celtic are willing to spend £2million on Duffy in a bid to secure his signature this summer.
Duffy began his career at David Moyes’ Everton in 2008, making five first team appearances in between loan spells at Burnley, Scunthorpe and Yeovil, before joining Championship side Blackburn Rovers in 2014.
The defender has been in fine form for Blackburn and despite being an unused sub against Sweden and Belgium, the Irish International gained his 5th cap against Italy in Group E of Euro 2016.
Duffy put in a solid performance which helped secure an historic victory against Italy to propel the Republic of Ireland into the last sixteen.
The Derry man may favour a move to Parkhead where he will be in with a strong chance of winning trophies, along with regular European football.
