Brian O’Driscoll Has An Interesting Perspective On The England Captaincy

DUBLIN, IRELAND - NOVEMBER 05: Irish rugby player, Brian O'Driscoll speaks on stage about being an ambassador for BT Sport during the third day of the 2015 Web Summit on November 5, 2015 in Dublin, Ireland. The Web Summit is now in it's 4th year and is technology's most global gathering. In numbers, it has 42,000 attendees from 134 countries, 1,000 speakers, 2,100 startups and 1,200 media. Brian O’Driscoll does not believe a back should be captain.

Despite Captaining Leinster, Ireland and the Lions from 2nd centre, Brian O’Driscoll does not believe that Eddie Jones should select a player outside of the scrum half as England Captain.

O’Driscoll made the remark on BT Sports Rugby Tonight, adding that the Captain should ideally be selected from the players picked between the second row and scrum half.

While there is logic to his argument, the thought of having a mouthy scrum half captaining a team will fill some with dread.

Nonetheless, it is interesting to hear a player who spent the better part of his career leading his side from the 13 jersey say that a forward is better placed for the role.
