Arsenal’s summer dealings are far from over despite Arsene Wenger’s massive coup in landing Chilean superstar Alexis Sanchez. The Frenchman is keen to bring more talent to the Emirates in a bid to bring the Gunners back to the top of English football.
Rumours have been growing that Spanish captain Iker Casillas may end up an Arsenal player before the transfer window closes reports the Express. The veteran goalkeeper is believed to be unhappy at the Bernabeu, having been on the bench most of last season with Diego Lopez preferred, and things are not looking up for next season either with the arrival of Costa Rican Keylor Navas from Levante confirmed.
The discontented Casillas may be allowed to depart for Arsenal on a free transfer, but it remains to be seen whether Arsene Wenger would be willing to meet the reported £135,000 per week wage demands for a keeper who may end up being second choice to incumbent Wojciech Szczesny.
Arsenal have completed their third signing of the summer fending off clubs across Europe to land Barcelona youngster Georgios Spanoudakis reports The Star. The German youth international, aged only 15, is an exciting prospect and will line out for the Londoners U-18 side.
Gunners fans however will be more concerned with the here and now and while there is huge excitement around the arrival of Alexis Sanchez will want to see another big name signing before the start of the season.
Sami Khedira’s expected transfer from Real Madrid is stalled on the German’s inflated £150,000 -a-week wage demands, leaving Wenger looking at other names in the defensive midfield berth.
William Carvalho is one such option under consideration, with Sporting Lisbon already having turned down a £24 million Arsenal bid according to The Star. The Portuguese club have a massive £37 million release clause written into Carvalho’s contract, and Wenger, while still interested, would be unwilling to stump up that much. It remains to be seen whether a figure can be agreed for the Portuguese international or whether a breakthrough in the Khedira deal happens.
