Angel Di Maria has many admirers throughout Europe and he looks set to leave Real Madrid with the possibility of going to Chelsea or Manchester United as opposed to Arsenal also on the cards, according to the Daily Express.
To some this might come as a shock move due to the Argentine’s heavy involvement in Real’s 2013/14 season. Di Maria has also had a good World Cup campaign thus far scoring the winner against Switzerland to cement Argentina’s place in the quarter-finals.
As mentioned in a previous article concerning the possible signing of Sami Khedira; Arsene Wenger would be making a mistake by bringing in another midfielder. It is in attack where Arsenal are going to struggle without a new signing and although using your midfield players attacking strengths can be of huge benefit to a team, it cannot be ignored that a prolific goal scorer is needed to succeed in the Premier League’s top four.
Di Maria is a very talented midfield player but is also quite similar to Mesut Ozil, making one question the motives of a possible move for the Madrid maestro.
He is undoubtedly talented and has the natural ability to match any creative midfielder of his generation. He is not an athlete of the stature of Cristiano Ronaldo but more than makes up for it with his capability on the ball, particularly in tight spaces.
He would inject a new dimension to any midfield team on the planet, but whether he is what’s needed at Arsenal remains very much up for debate.
