While the Arsenal faithful will be delighted with the signings of Alexis Sanchez and the soon-to-be-confirmed Mathieu Debuchy, Arsène Wenger’s plans to bring in Sami Khedira from Real Madrid have run into problems.
The London Evening Standard has reported that the proposed deal to bring Sami Khedira to the Emirates is still in doubt.Arsène Wenger has apparently come up with Real Madrid’s £23.8million valuation, but the stumbling block to getting the move finalised appears to be the German’s £150,00 per week wage demands.
Conversely, Chelsea would not have an issue with the wage issue, as others at Stamford Bridge are pocketing paychecks of a similar scale. José Mourinho is believed to be interested but has not tabled a bid.
With uncertainty persisting there is also the possibility that Khedira will snub the two London clubs and opt to remain at the Bernabéu. His agent, Jorg Neubauer, has indicated that this is a possibility but only if the Madrid club come up with an improved contract, matching the £91,000 a week new signing Toni Kroos is believed to earn.
The Express reports that Arsenal are going to publicly announce the signing of Mathieu Debuchy on Thursday. The completion of the Frenchman’s £12 million move from Newcastle had been delayed as the Magpies searched for a right back replacement. This was resolved when Alan Pardew landed Feyenoord’s Daryl Janmaat.
Meanwhile, Louis van Gaal is still keen to bring in Gunners captain Thomas Vermaelen in a £12 million move. The Belgian international’s vast Premier League experience and his ability to provide cover both in central defence or left back make him an attractive proposition for the Red Devils. The International Business Times has reported that United defender Chris Smalling could be used as a makeweight in the deal.
