Breaking: Brentford agree £23 million fee for Nathan Collins

Brentford have agreed terms with Wolves for Nathan Collins.

Sky Sports are reporting that Brentford have come to an agreement with Wolves for the signing of Nathan Collins.

Collins lost his place in the Wolves side half way through last season when manager Julien Lopetegui added Craig Dawson to his backline.

Brentford however –  who finished ninth last season – are ready to take the Ireland international off their hands with a record fee of £23 million for an Irish player.

It will be the second consecutive summer that Collins has broken the Irish record as last year’s move from Burnley to Wolves was valued at £20.5 million.

Nathan Collins set for Brentford switch.

Collins was recently named Republic of Ireland Player of the Year and was included in the Sofascore Team of the UEFA Nations League for his all-rounded performances under Stephen Kenny.

Still only 22 years of age, the Leixlip native’s best years are ahead of him and showed impressive signs at Premier League level both at the start of last season with Wolves and in the previous campaign with Burnley.

Although he will join Brentford as a result of losing his place at Wolves, the transfer could still be viewed as another step up the Premier League ladder.

Brentford.

Thomas Frank’s side finished on 59 points in the 2022/2023 season, just one shy of Tottenham Hotspur. The Bees also won special praise for beating champions Manchester City both home and away.

The first came in November when they won 2-1 away from home and then they repeated the trick at the end of May by beating Pep Guardiola’s superstars 1-0.

The addition of Collins could help the Londoners to build on that impressive finish to potentially replicate Brighton’s path by securing an unlikely place in European football.
