SIE Debate: Will Jose Mourinho be seen as a success or a failure at Real Madrid?

Last night’s #SIE Debate on Twitter revolved around Jose Mourinho and his tenure at Real Madrid.

Following Real Madrid’s ‘respectable’ exit from the Champions League, Twitter went into overdrive with speculation about the future of ‘The Special One’, Jose Mourinho. English broadcaster ITV seemed to cut off Jose mid-sentence, just as he was about to reveal his destination for next season.

Tuesday’s ‘The People’s Voice’ discussion was whether Jose would be seen as a success of a failure at Madrid. Yes, he has brought silverware to the famous Los Blancos. However, he has alienated himself from the Spanish media and, more importantly, senior members of the Madrid squad.

For a club that has such a proud and successful history, it is clear that Jose’s antics would never see him stay at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu for the long-term. For example, he attempted to eye-gouge current Barcelona boss Tito Vilanova:

The response was very mixed, with some people supporting Mourinho:

…while others were less happy with the Portuguese:

It’s clear that Jose loves playing up to the cameras. Take a look at some of his quotes during his post-match interviews:

However, people seem to have more interest in Jose the person, rather than Jose the manager. He appears to be a short-term fix to many long-term problems.

We also spoke about the fact that Jose has done well because he has nearly always had a war-chest and a pool of talented players at his disposal, something that Alan Sugar appeared to agree with:

Despite Jose dragging the club through the mud with his behaviour towards the Spanish media and his public fall-out with Madrid legend Iker Casillas, it appears he is still loved by many fans of Los Meringues:

We particularly like Jose’s new niickname:

Well that’s the end of last night’s #SIE Debate on Twitter. All that’s left now is to vote in our poll:
