Kobe Bryant made history last night when he became the first NBA player to reach 30,000 points and 6,000 assists, pipping greats like Michael Jordan and Karl Malone.
The Black Mamba came into the Lakers’ clash with the Raptors knowing that nine assists would see him etch his name into the history books. But, Kobe being Kobe, he went gung-ho and finished the night with his 20th career triple-double.
It was a milestone night for the 19-year veteran and he shot the lights out, finishing with 31 points, 11 rebounds and 12 assists, all the while leading the Lakers to a much-needed 129-122 win over the Raptors at the Staples Centre.
Fellow Laker Carlos Boozer was in awe of his teammate:
“Kobe was amazing tonight, man — dropping dimes to everybody, rebounding, shooting it and being a great playmaker. When he plays like that, we all get involved. He’s amazing every night, but tonight was something special.”
Kobe also became the oldest player to score 30 plus points while recording a triple-double. What a night for the Mamba. We should have known it was going to be a memorable one when Kobe showed his resilience with this jumper in the first:
