Looking At The Intriguing Undercard Ahead of Mayweather Vs McGregor

Floyd Mayweather faces Conor McGregor on August 26th in what will be a historic and record-breaking night in the history of combat sports.

The undercard proceedings have been controlled by Mayweather Promotions – with Badou Jack, Gervonta Davis and Savannah Marshall all set to feature in the T-Mobile Arena. We take a closer look at the three fighters ahead of their appearances in Vegas.

Gervonta Davis

It is believed that Davis is set to face Roman Martinez on the card. The impressive ‘Mini Mike Tyson’ is being billed as the next big thing by Mayweather and he will be bidding to maintain his 100% record – which includes 17 knock-outs from 18 bouts.

The IBF junior-lightweight champion made light work of Britain’s Liam Walsh back in May – and it’s likely that Davis will floor many more opponents in future.

Martinez hasn’t won any of his last two fights – drawing with Orlando Salido before being defeated by Vasyl Lomachenko last June – but he is a former two-time WBO super-featherweight titlist.

Badou Jack

British boxing fans will know Jack well after his epic encounter with James De Gale in January, and the Swedish fighter is set to appear on this card again – with Nathan Cleverly rumoured to be his preferred opponent.

The former WBC super-middleweight champion has only been defeated once, by Derek Edwards – and after his battles with George Groves, Anthony Dirrell and DeGale – fans on this side of the pond will be keen to see what he comes up with next.

Shawn Porter

The man they call ‘Showtime’ is set to feature as well – and he is set to come up against Puerto Rico’s Thomas Dulorme – another fighter tied down by Mayweather Promotions.

The former IBF welterweight champion is renowned for his physicality in the ring, and once faced Conor McGregor’s infamous sparring partner Paulie Malignaggi – winning by TKO in the fourth round. His addition will make the undercard all the more interesting.

Savannah Marshall

We all wanted to see Katie Taylor on the undercard, but we will see Savannah Marshall – as the impressive British fighter makes her professional debut following a bronze medal at last year’s World Boxing Championships.

Marshall, who also has a Commonwealth gold to her name, is part of the Money team – and is being tipped to have a bright future following a successful amateur career.
