Watch: Leon Reid Into Final Of Men’s 200m At European Championships

Irish sprinter Leon Reid is in with a chance of winning a European Championship medal after his performance on Wednesday.

The semi-finals of the 200 metre sprint at the European Athletics Championships in Berlin took place today, with Reid finishing second in a time of 20.38 seconds.

Reid just lost out to 2017 World Champion, Ramil Guliyev in the heat by five hundreds of a second, but such competitive pace bodes well for his medal chances on Thursday night.

He also had a bit to say about the criticism he has received in light of his transfer from the British set-up to the Athletics Ireland one. He was only cleared to race for Ireland six days ago.

No Irish male sprinter has ever won a medal at this event. Thomas Barr, who qualified for the 400m men’s hurdles final in time of 49.10 seconds, will join Reid in attempting to break that 80-plus year duck.
