Premier League Darts Week 7 – Preview

This week we preview the seventh round of games in the Betway Premier League Darts tournament.

With just three weeks left until the bottom two players are relegated from the league, the bottom half of the table, which includes the likes of debutant Stephen Bunting, and former World Champions Adrian Lewis and Raymond van Barneveld, cannot afford any more slip-ups.

Glasgow, with it’s notoriously partisan crowd, plays host to this week’s round of fixtures.

Fixtures:

James Wade v Adrian Lewis

Coming off a win at the Players Championship during the weekend, the rejuvenated Wade looks to stave off relegation against the erratic Lewis. Lewis’ errant nature usually presents a problem in trying to predict his matches, so we’ll sit on the fence for this one and call a draw.

Peter Wright v Stephen Bunting

After two early defeats, Wright is undefeated in his last four league matches. Although Bunting has bounced back in a similar fashion, coming off of two wins against Lewis and Chisnall, the Scottish crowd may well play into the hands of  Wright, who tends to involve the crowd in his matches regardless.

Raymond van Barneveld v Phil Taylor

With a head-to-head record of 51-12 in favour of Taylor, it would take somebody brave to back the Dutchman, who still has only one win to his name. In contrast, Taylor is in decent form and looks poised to help book his place in the semi-finals.

Kim Huybrechts v Gary Anderson

The 7/2 odds available for Kim are indicative of the challenge he faces in playing the World Champion who has the home advantage. Kim’s struggle to adapt to the Premier League Darts format suggests another loss to Anderson, who was impressive in beating Adrian Lewis last week 7-1.

Dave Chisnall v Michael van Gerwen

Rounding off the evening is this mouthwatering top of the table clash between two of dart’s young guns. Chisnall’s great form has continued aside from suffering his first loss last week, while MVG remains undefeated in the league. Coupled with the short format, this collision of in-form players means that calling a winner is rather difficult, so we’ll plump for another draw.
