Twitter reacts to tonight’s electric opening press conference between boxing’s Floyd Mayweather and MMA’s Conor McGregor.
Today marked the first time Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor faced off and though the entire event featured only a limited appearance from both men, there was more than enough in the way of entertaining trash-talk to keep fans happy for the next few hours until they meet again tomorrow night.
It began as a rather flat affair but some well-timed interruptions from the ‘Notorious One’ himself seemed to light something of a fire underneath his unbeaten opponent and from there on out, it was all fireworks.
The McGregor/Mayweather pressed was so exciting and that's the first one. Will only get better. Gonna make for a great fight! #McGregor 👍

Mcgregor OWNS the trash talking business and always backs it up

Fun way to start things off. I'm sure we'll see a crescendo in London. McGregor is huge compared to Floyd. #MayweatherMcGregor

Some weren’t impressed, however, whether it was due to the spectacle itself or the ridiculous decision to mute McGregor’s mic as Mayweather spoke.
They didn’t like Conor having a hot mic, did they? When Floyd was shadow boxing and Conor said: “Dance little man!” that didn’t go down well

Everything that made McGregor vs. Diaz special is missing from Mayweather vs. McGregor

That speech format was bollox. One on one with live mic's and Conor slaughters Floyd

But for the most part, the presser went down an absolute treat and despite both men having their moments, a clear victor wasn’t unanimously agreed upon. One man who caught quite a bit of flak, however, was the former UFC heavyweight Brendan Schaub, whose outright pro-McGregor stance had many scratching their heads in confusion.
If you only listened to Brendan Schaub leading up to the May-McGregor fight, you'd think McGregor was a 10-to-1 favorite.

Brendan Schaub making the case for Conor McGregor being the A-side for this fight is ridiculous levels of ignorance.

It was brief but it was very entertaining at its best and with three more conferences yet to see this week, you can be sure that this already tantalising rivalry will only continue to blossom as we edge closer to August 26th.
