Dana White Open To Jones Vs. Adesanya In The Future

The UFC president has revealed that he would be interested in making a fight between Israel Adesanya and Jon Jones in the future.

It’s not exactly the first fight that springs to mind for either man but when you actually stop and think about, it does seem like the route to take for the UFC – given their increasing interest in these cross-divisional super-fights.

After originally taking some shots at the rising star before he earned his UFC interim-title last night, Jones once again stressed his belief that Adesanya is beneath him – questioning the competitive nature of last night’s thrilling co-main event contest.

In his post-fight press conference, UFC president Dana White expressed his interest in a matchup between Jones and Adesanya – although it would, of course, require Stylebender to have captured the UFC middleweight title.

“I know him and Jon Jones have been talking some smack, and listen, if he wins, and he becomes the middleweight champion, obviously I’d love to see him and Jon Jones fight.

“But we’ll see how everything plays out and timing. Because the other thing is if Israel fights Whittaker and wins, there’s other guys that have been waiting in line, too, to fight for the title. If (Ronaldo) ‘Jacare’ (Souza) keeps winning and doesn’t get a title fight, that guy might kill me.

“But that Jon Jones fight is going to be out there for Israel no matter what. That ain’t going anywhere.”

As for his now inevitable clash with reigning middleweight champion Robert Whittaker, White made it clear that the UFC are planning to go all out with the fight.

Naturally, the fight will take place in Australia given Whittaker and Adesanya’s respective homes on that side of the world but on top of that, Dana claimed that it will be stadiums, and not arenas, that will be considered.

“[He] has Whittaker to look forward to now. Whittaker is a bad dude. He’s bigger than Kelvin, he hits harder than Kelvin, and he needs to focus on him right now.

“We were going to do that fight here; I wanted that fight in the U.S. We’re definitely not doing that fight in the U.S. That fight is going to Australia.

“It will be massive in Australia. I put my guys on that. That’s their homework for this week. A stadium, not an arena, A stadium in Australia.”
