With the World Cup final between Pacific Ocean neighbours Australia and New Zealand just around the corner, localised, friendly rivalry was bound to surface.
Air New Zealand instigated the cordial war of words – and images – on Twitter, posting a photo of a Qantas (the Wallabies’ main sponsor) airplane painted in black while also donning the All Blacks’ famous crest.
The most audacious aesthetic features of all, however, must be the quotes which adorned Air New Zealand’s concept Qantas plane, such as “Dan’s the man” and “Simply the best”.

The Australian airline’s response deserves praise too while also begging the question – how can each social media team be so good at photoshop?

We can certainly expect more of the same kind of southern hemisphere banter in the next 24 hours as the build up to arguably the grandest of spectacles in world rugby approaches.
New Zealand are vying to create history by winning back-to-back World Cups and become the first country to win three tournaments while Australia are also hoping to win the Web Ellis Cup for the third time.
Until Saturday’s showdown in Twickenham, the sky’s the limit (pun intended) for friendly jibes like this it seems.
