Worcester Speedster Named Aviva Premiership Player Of The Month

Josh Adams has been named as the Aviva Premiership Rugby Player of the Month award for December.

The 22-year-old Worcester Warriors wing has been in excellent form this season, touching down nine times in thirteen league appearances, and currently tops the Premiership try-scoring table.

Former Llanelli RFC flyer Adams’ achievement is all the more impressive considering the fact that he has performed in this way in a struggling Warriors team, that lie bottom but one in the table.

Speaking about the former Wales u-20 back yesterday, Will Greenwood was effusive in his praise of the youngster, saying that he should be given a chance at international level this year.

The former Leicester and Harlequins man said:

“Josh Adams is having one of those purple patches where he would score if the opposition blindfolded him.

“Adams is big and quick which is a great start. But he adds to this raw power with real balance and deft feet. Continually improving his understanding of back three play, it would be remarkable were he not to get some international recognition in 2018”.

With Warren Gatland naming his squad for next month’s Six Nations on Tuesday, one feels that Adams just has to be in the New Zealander’s 36-man squad.

And with Dragons winger Hallam Amos and Northampton Saints’ George North out of Wales’ opening Six Nations clash with Scotland on February 3, he should be a serious contender for a starting spot against the Scots.

He held off stiff competition from talented Wasps pair Danny Cipriani and Dan Robson and powerful Exeter Chiefs back-rower Don Armand to win the award which was judged by a panel of media professionals.

Adams who joined the Warriors in 2015 and who has a contract with the English side until the end of the 2018-19 season, wins a trophy and a £250 donation to the charity of his choice.
