Welsh International Second Row Joins Japanese Side Toyota Verblitz

Harlequins v Bath Rugby - Aviva Premiership

Having turned down a move to the Cardiff Blues, Dominic Day is off to Japan.

Wales lock, Dominic Day, will join Japanese side, Toyota Verblitz, after turning down contract offers from the Cardiff Blues and Bath.

The three times capped Welsh international will join the Top League side once his current contract with Bath expires next month. While his loss will not have a massive impact on Wales, it nonetheless comes as a shock.

However, according to Wales Online, Day has only signed with the Japanese side until January, leaving open the possibility of returning in the new year.

After making over 100 appearances for Bath, Day was a player in demand, having not only turned down an offer from the Blues, but from Bath and an unspecified French club.

However after speaking with Japanese international club mate, Amanaki Mafi, amongst others, Day felt ‘It was just an opportunity I felt I couldn’t turn down’.

Joining Day at Toyota Verblitz next season will be 55 times capped Australian international, Wycliff Palu.
