Will Greenwood certainly doesn’t agree with the general consensus on the HIA controversies that popped up during Ireland’s last minute victory over France on Saturday.
The Six Nations official HIA Review Panel is currently examining two incidents after two French players were removed from the field of play for head injury assessments in highly questionable circumstances vs Ireland on Saturday.
Flyhalf Matthieu Jalibert suffered a knee injury in a collision with Bundee Aki in the first half. However, a Head Injury Assessment was bafflingly ordered by the assessing doctor. In the second half, an even more bemusing HIA was called for after Antoine Dupont clearly suffered a knee injury which was later confirmed to be a season-ending cruciate ligament tear.
However, after some furious reaction suggested that France were guilty of gamesmanship, Will Greenwood has now fired back in an equally severe manner unequivocally stating that the French are totally innocent of the accusations being levelled against them.
He’s gone down. There’s a lad on the floor, not moving, by a ruck. The doctor’s going to say in the ear, we need to check that with HIA. Once you’ve done that, you’re not then going to say, ‘actually he’s done his knee’. You need to check for HIA….
If this was French Skullduggery, Machenaud would have kicked the goal that would have won France the game 16-12. End of. Stop bleeding on about French cheating! They haven’t. It was an accident.

‘So commentators, media – everyone who said afterwards “the French are up to skulduggery” got it completely wrong?’ ‘100%’. WATCH @WillGreenwood discusses Saturday’s controversial #NatWest6Nations #FRAvIRE HIA in the latest #TheOffload: https://t.co/yf0oMWfbTB pic.twitter.com/T8IhuEDiR6
