Watch: Welsh Club Post Video Of ‘Best Ever Try Scored At Grassroots Level’

Welsh rugby club Aberystwyth RFC have claimed to have scored the best ever try at grassroots level.

The mid-Wales side, who play in National League One West, made the claim on Twitter, posting a video of the stunning length-of-the-field try along with the audio of former Wales fly-half and legendary commentator Cliff Morgan’s famous commentary of Gareth Edwards’ iconic try for the Barbarians against New Zealand in 1973.

Edwards’ try is considered by many as the greatest ever scored. And the audio is most certainly apt as the club, established in 1947, produced an absolute peach of a try.

Moving the ball from a ruck on their own five-metre line, excellent support play and sweetly-timed offloads between forwards and backs saw the ball come to scrum-half Ifan Thomas who avoided the clutches of a desperate last defender to go over for an amazing score.

The 30-second video has already been seen by over 54,000 people and earned over 300 retweets and 1,000 likes, with the Welsh Rugby Union and Gavin Henson parody account- @UnrealGavHenson re-tweeting it.

Unfortunately, the spellbinding try wasn’t enough to prevent the home side from going down to a 14-19 defeat to Gowerton.

But the club can be content in the knowledge that the try may well be the ‘greatest ever scored at grassroots level’.
