Wales legend Adam Jones, currently coaching Harlequins’ second string team in the Aviva A Team league, was recently mic’d up for his team’s match against Saracens Storms at Esher RFC – and the results are hilarious.
Arguably the world’s best tight-head in his pomp, the 95 times-capped former Ospreys and Cardiff Blues front-rower is still on the Quins books as a player and has made 30 appearances for the club since joining them in 2015, although he is yet to make an appearance for them this year, as he focuses on coaching.
In the three minute video, the former British and Irish Lions prop’s sheer enthusiasm for the game shines through as he encourages and cajoles his charges whilst also making some cracking quips including the classic ‘he’s bouncing around like a teddy’ and the instruction to get ‘some caffeine into him’, as he also offers to buy each of his men a pint if they win!
The video also includes the funny subtitles ‘inaudible Welsh’, as Jones who has been earning rave reviews at the club, mutters to himself in Welsh.
It all seemed to do the trick as his side ran out 46-20 winners against their rivals with Welsh fans hoping Jones will bring his own unique coaching style back to Wales in the future.
