Taniela Tupou, otherwise known as ‘Tongon Thor’, has been utterly destroying opponents ever since he burst onto the scene as schoolboy in 2014. Now with the Queensland Reds, he has managed to get himself into some hot water after he absolutely smashed Chiefs star Liam Messam.
The 20-year-old, who stands at 5’10” and weighs in at an eye-watering 135kg (21.5st), was playing for the Reds against the Chiefs in the inaugural Brisbane 10s competition. While taking the ball deep in his own half he, off course, backed himself and ran the ball out.
Messam, capped 43 times by the All Blacks, at 6’3″ and 17st dropped the shoulder as he attempted to stop the thundering hooker, only to be blown back ten feet in an incredible moment of an unstoppable force meeting an immovable object.
Take a look.

As astonishing as the footage was, both men remained on their feet and as Tupou was swamped by Chiefs players, Messam arrived in with a questionable swinging arm. With tempers tested, the young Reds player dropped a cheeky headbutt on Messam.
Following the game, Tupou was cited and has quickly received a two-week suspension for the headbutt, according to Rugby Heaven. Originally a four week ban, his exemplary record to date saw the suspension halved.
While the post-scuffle shenanigans will be quickly forgotten by all, the sheer awesomeness of watching a 17st man being thrown backwards like a rag doll is something that will make the highlight reels for years to come.
