Watch: Remembering Paul O’Connell’s Moment Of Sheer Genius On A Question Of Sport

Paul O’ Connell on A Question of Sport… never forget.

After retiring from rugby in 2016, Paul O’Connell took some time to have a bit of a laugh with some TV appearances before eventually popping up on ‘A Question of Sport’.

The former Ireland and Munster captain was quizzing alongside the likes of AP McCoy, Leon Osman and Matt Dawson when the 38-year-old sent the crowd (and his opposing team) to their feet with a moment of jaw-dropping brilliance.

Asked to guess a 23 letter term (that could be ‘a venue, a team, a sporting term – basically, anything to do with sport’) with just two letters as clues, O’Connell’s moment of sheer genius had the attending crowd in disbelief and justifiably went viral immediately after it was aired on the BBC.

Matt Dawson correctly labelled the guess as ‘one of the greatest answers of all time’ just moments after O’Connell had made the spectacular answer.

Currently working with the Munster academy, we have no doubt that the Irish legend could make a nice little side gig for himself as a professional pub quizzer.
