Not content with blowing his whistle on the field, international rugby referee Nigel Owens is also putting his whistle to good effect in the advertising world.
In this funny Emirates airlines ad, the 46-year-old, who has officiated in more than 80 Tests, at three World Cups and over 350 professional games in his 17-year career, disturbs a couple in the middle of an emotional farewell with the shrill of his whistle.
Reading the riot act to the suprised couple, he says:
“That’s a clear case of not releasing. It’s been happening all day”.
Before giving the perplexed woman her marching orders.
“Off you go, please”.
An official sponsor of international referees, Emirates also sponsor two events on the World Sevens circuit.

Known for his ability to let the game flow, his excellent relationship with the players, and his wise-cracks, the former school lab assistant is recognized as the world’s best referee.
He has reffed some of the best Tests in recent years and was the man in the middle for the All Blacks’ epic 35-29 win over Australia two weeks ago.
The world’s most capped ref, having broken Jonathan Kaplan’s Test record last year, the affable Welshman is hoping to go on for another two years.
Owens will once again be in the land of the long white cloud this weekend as he takes up the whistle for New Zealand’s clash against the Argentina in Albany.
