This wasn’t exactly subtle from Johnny Sexton…
After an intense 80 minutes of rugby, Ireland clutched victory from the jaws of defeat with the last kick of the game in the Stade de France on Saturday evening.
41 phases saw the Irish working their way from their own 22 to a position deep into French territory and, from over 40 metres out, Johnny Sexton was able to ping a glorious drop goal between the posts to hand Ireland victory.
However, despite the elated scenes at fulltime, Sexton wasn’t going to leave the ceremonies rest without having a not so subtle pop at the man in charge on the day.
Nigel Owens was nothing but a disgrace all day yesterday. Remember his comments of duty of care to a player in the air and yellow card for earls. Rob Kearney??? Fair play to sexton calling out his shite performance in the interview. We beat 16 men yesterday #6Nations2018

Thank Christ sexton landed that. Nigel Owens was in line for some dogs abuse had that not gone over. #IREvFRA

There was a significant portion of Irish fans who felt that Owens was inconsistent in his handling of the game and, speaking to TV 3, the Ireland out-half certainly seemed to agree with that line of thinking as he stated that the game was made difficult for the Irish as a result of the conditions and ‘the way Nigel ref’d it’.
Great to hear Sexton in his interview calling out Nigel Owens on that refereeing display too

it’ll probably be forgotten because of #Sexton‘s magic but Nigel Owens had a mare by his standards….never have i seen a game where he made such glaringly bad non calls!
