Ill-discipline has been one of the biggest problems with England in recent years and one of the worst incidents yet may just have come against Wales.
Shortly before half-time with the visitors leading 8-6, Wasps back row forward Nathan Hughes tussled with Ross Moriarty at the breakdown and the Englishman appeared to gouge his opponent’s eyes. It’s not the most blatant act of this kind but players have been sanctioned for less. There’s no question whether or not contact was made with the face, the only question remains whether or not Hughes actually digs into the eyes of his opponent.

It went unnoticed by the match officials.
If the authorities deem it to be just that, an eye-gouge, they’ll come down hard on the Fiji-born forward. He would likely miss the rest of this year’s championship if found guilty.
When the two sides met this time last year, retrospective action were the words on everyone’s lips as well as Wales’ Tomas Francis was cited for this incident involving Dan Cole.
Shortly after today’s episode, the hosts crossed and went in at the break on top. Wales couldn’t hold on for the victory and a late Elliot Daly gave Eddie Jones’ side a massive win.
