Watch: Conrad Smith Was Smashed By A Massive Tackle During Pau’s Win Over Grenoble

Conrad Smith was at the receiving end of a massive hit last weekend.

Section Paloise, or Pau as they are better known, are one of France’s more unfashionable teams. Based in the foothills of the Pyrenees, Pau were promoted to the Top 14 at the end of the 2014/15 season, and went about signing some of the games biggest names in order to retain their place in the French top flight.

Bankrolled by petroleum giants, Total, last summer Pau shocked many commentators when they announced the capture of All Blacks, Conrad Smith and Colin Slade. Having avoided relegation, Pau made a statement of intent ahead of next season, by signing Toulon openside, Steffon Armitage last month.

Nevertheless, while Pau are now competing for some of the game’s biggest names, those same players remain susceptible to being put on their backside like everyone else.

That is exactly what happened Conrad Smith last weekend, when the 94 times capped All Black international was smashed by Grenoble’s Daniel Kilioni.

However, as the big Tongan winger hit Smith after the former All Black allowed the ball pass in front of his body, Kilioni was handed a yellow card by the referee. Smith though was clearly in a lot of pain, receiving some treatment after the tackle.

Kilioni was one of three Grenoble players sin binned during the game, as a result, it came as little surprise to see Pau run out comfortable 29-12 winners.
