England star Billy Vunipola has reacted to accidentally being ‘fat-shamed’ by the Queen.
The 38 times-capped No. 8, currently out of action after fracturing his forearm during a Champions Cup match against the Ospreys in January, visited Buckingham Palace last week, along with his brother, Mako.
After the pair’s visit, headlines emerged that the Queen might have accidentally fat-shamed England’s top rugby players.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live’s Rugby Union Weekly podcast, the Saracens powerhouse explained exactly what had happened there.
After telling her that he’d broken his hand, the Queen expressed some surprise before saying that she’d been told that rugby was becoming different and that it was becoming faster and more powerful. To which Vunipola expressed his agreement with her.
So far, so good.
But Vunipola was taken aback by her next comment when she said:
“And she was like, ‘yeah, I’m yet to be convinced’.”
Sharing about how the Queen had watched a lot of rugby when growing up, 20st 7lb Vunipola took the Queen’s nonchalant reply as a suggestion that he needed to lose some weight.
“I just took it as like, ‘oh, I probably need to lose some weight’.”
The 2016 grand slam winner is out of this year’s Six Nations and is likely to only return to action at the beginning of April.
