England’s Maro Itoje more than justified his call-up to the Lions’ starting team for yesterday’s Test with a rampaging performance in Wellington.
The 22-year-old was responsible for his fair share of errors during Saturday’s game and didn’t always carry at the level he’s capable of but was one of the outstanding performers for the Lions. Our readers even saw fit to give the Saracens man a 9/10 in a poll we ran yesterday.
Such was the effectiveness of his display, he became something of a fan favourite with those lucky enough to be at the game and was given the Jeremy Corbyn-treatment by the crowd.

Itoje’s partner in the second row for the game, Alun Wyn Jones, was obviously impressed by the young man’s display and as he was walking off the pitch, joined the fans in song.
? Ohhh, @maroitoje ?

Following his fine showing in the Cake Tin, Itoje is a certainty to retain his place in the starting XV for the series-deciding third Test this Saturday. There have been some suggestions 31-year-old Jones should lose out in favour of Courtney Lawes or George Kruis.
