Warren Gatland has made some interesting calls in his selection of the Welsh squad who will take on Ireland on Saturday in the Principality Stadium.
The match will stand as the coach’s final outing in charge of the national side before embarking on his pursuit of World Cup glory in Japan and later leaving the role entirely upon its completion.
Though a warm-up for the tournament, there will no doubt still be a lot to play for as the 55-year-old has yet to announce his 31-man squad – giving many of those playing on Saturday one final opportunity to impress him before his decision is finalised.
Interestingly, two of those starting will be doing so for the first time – with Saracens prop Rhys Carre and Cardiff Blues’ Owen Lane stepping in for their respective debuts.
The entire panel named by Gatland for his final match in charge of the Welsh in a home-stadium will be laid out as follows:
