Wales’ second loss means they cannot now qualify for the semi-finals, which is a great shame for a team that showed such dogged determination.

Ireland top their group after an impressive 35 – 7 thrashing of Georgia and will go into the knock-out stages feeling confident. They play Argentina in the first semi-final.

England will play South Africa in the other semi-final. For the first time in their history, New Zealand have not qualified for the semi-finals of the U20s Championship.
