It was an amazing weekend of Rugby World Cup action, with plenty of thrills and spills to keep us amused right through the week, topped up by some enthralling matches last night.
The highlight of the weekend for many was Italy’s unlikely challenge to Ireland in the Olympic Stadium, running Joe Schmidt’s side all the way to the final whistle. The return of captain and talisman Sergio Parisse inspired Jacques Brunel’s side to giving the Irish the fright of their lives, just a week after a nervy victory over Canada.
If there was any one instant in the match which typified the Italian hunger and passion, setting the tone early on, it was this run from Parisse. He sat Mike Ross back onto the ground, before continuing along. Boom.
Considering Ross tips the scales at 127 kg, or 20 stone, this is all the more impressive. It goes to show why Parisse is rated among the very best back-row forwards in the World.
