It was a promising display for the Pacific Islanders, who harbour real ambitions of reaching a World Cup quarter-final for the first time since 1995. On this evidence, Scotland fans ought to be worried about their chances this Autumn.
New Zealand, meanwhile, may have been hopeful of a bigger winning margin, but considering the strong Samoan challenge, they will be happy with the win.
