Jonathan Sexton has had a tough few months since the Rugby World Cup. Targeted by France during Ireland’s Pool D win in Cardiff, he missed the quarter-final loss to Argentina.
Since then, he has struggled for form since his comeback, but there are signs that the former Racing Metro fly-half is back to his best.
Leinster beat the Ospreys on Friday night, and Sexton was at the heart of everything the Irish province did well. There was an interesting personal duel in the out-half channel, as arguably Europe’s two best 10s went head to head, and Sexton certainly got the better of Dan Biggar.
To announce himself to be truly back on the big stage, Sexton decided to send a cross-field kick straight into the arms of the on-rushing Dave Kearney. It was a thing of beauty.
With the Six Nations fast approaching, Joe Schmidt will certainly be a happy man to see his star man back in form, even if it is too late to save Leinster’s European campaign.
