Ireland U20s, having taken the scalp of World Champions New Zealand and Grand Slam winners Wales, added the the Argentines to their list of vanquished enemies this afternoon.

The ‘Wolfpuppies’ were in typically devastating form, as it took just 8 minutes for Jacob Stockdale to cross for the first try, which was expertly converted by out-half Johnny McPhillips. Such a start would set the tone for the rest of the half, as further tries courtesy of an interception by Man of the Match Max Deegan and a second for Stockdale saw Ireland head into half time as 21-7 leaders.

Such domination continued into the second half, during which Ireland’s scrum reigned supreme, and Johnny McPhillips kicked three unanswered penalties to see Ireland’s advantage extend to 30-7 by the 70 minute mark.

The game would be marred be a head-butt by Argentine substitute Santiago Pulella, for which he saw red, but nothing would deny Ireland who went onto to win the game on a stunning scoreline of 37-7 following a last minute interception by centre Shane Daly.

Twitter was, understandably, mightily impressed:

Ireland go onto the final on Saturday 25th June, when they will face the winners of the other semi final between England and South Africa. Two potentially formidable opponents, although based on today’s evidence there’s little reason to see why Ireland can’t go the whole way.
